The Northumberland Nighthawk Minor Midgets rode the offence of Drew Clapperton and the goaltending of Ty Everden to a 2-0 victory in their regular season opener in Pickering on Wednesday night
In what was a fast paced game that seen both teams challenge all night the Nighthawks came out on top of the contest. The game remained scoreless until late in the
2nd period when Drew
Clapperton broke the tie with 2:51 remaining in the period with a wrist shot from the high slot beating
Pickering goalie
Nathan Loftus over the shoulder with helpers going to
Owen Watson and Austin
Gilmour.
The game remained 1-0 throughout the third in large part to the solid
goaltending of
Ty Everden who turned aside all 20 shots he faced in the contest to earn his
2nd shutout in as many games. "My role is to give the guys a chance to put up a W and that's what we were able to do tonight on the road" commented
Everden after the game.

Clapperton put the icing on the cake with his
2nd tally of the night with 6:27 left on a goal mouth scramble, Carter Clarke picked up an assist on the play.
Clapperton commented after the game " I
benefited from a solid team effort and we could not have asked for a better start to the year"
The Nighthawks hit the ice again Friday night with their home opener against the a Kingston Canadians a the JBSC, game time is 9:15pm
