Bios

Michelle Brown- Nominated for President

I have served on the NMHA Executive for several seasons as the Communications Officer, and most recently as the President. Prior to this, I was the Chair of Parent Council at The Burnham School for 8 years, but first and foremost, I am the Mom to three outstanding children. Both my boys played originally as Cobourg Cougars and became proud Northumberland Nighthawks after amalgamation. My 14 year old daughter has a passion for dance and stays as far away from hockey as she can.

Those who know me, know that I am passionate about communicating! To be honest, I know very little about the actual game of hockey, but as a business owner of 20years, I do know about operations and logistics.  I appreciate that the interworking of organizations can seem confusing and overwhelming. I want to be able to simplify many of our processes for our members, make sure that everyone remains in the loop about things that are happening and celebrate all of our Nighthawk successes.

I strongly believe in following the rules set out by our governing bodies.  I believe that everyone needs to be accountable for their actions, and that the best interest of our players should always be paramount. This past season was definitely challenging with the ever evolving guidelines that we needed to adhere to to keep our players and families safe. I appreciate the trust that you have placed in me over the years, and look forward to continuing to serve our members and community as a whole.

Bob Harper- Nominated for President and VP of Rep

Hi My Name is Bob Harper.  I was born and raised in Cobourg and grew up playing hockey in Cobourg Community Hockey League.  Hockey was an important part of my life as a youth and giving back to the game and our local association is very important to me.  I started as a volunteer coach in Ottawa with the Ottawa Minor Hockey Association in my early 20’s and have been volunteering and giving back to minor hockey ever since.

I have been a member or our executive for the past 2 seasons and this past season I had taken on the role of VP of Rep. Hockey.  I have also helped organize last years NMHA Return to Ice Committee, consisting of a few other Executive members, in which we are continuously working in partnership with the CCC and the Town of Cobourg to set up processes and procedures that will enable the rinks to open and get local hockey players back on the ice.

If selected to represent our members on the NMHA Executive, my focus is to improve the overall product we offer to our members. I feel that member input and feedback would be beneficial and a key part in growing the Association and would help the Executive Committee, allowing us to work together and implement the wishes and desires of our member to the benefit of our children.

Karen McCormack- Nominated for Secretary

Northumberland Region has been my home for over 25 years.   My son continues to play for the NMHA and has played minor hockey since before the amalgamation of the Cobourg and Port Hope associations.   For years my son and our family has benefitted from the commitment of many coaches and volunteers, it is time for us to give back.   Professionally I have taught at both the elementary and secondary levels in the Northumberland Region and for the past 9 years I have taken on the role of Vice Principal and Principal in both Cobourg and Port Hope.  My professional skills provide me with the experience and tools needed to take on the role of secretary as well as the tools needed to be an active member of the Executive.

Kelly Morris- Nominated for Registrar

My name is Kelly Morris and I have been an NMHA volunteer for 3 years. I have a son in Hockey and a daughter in Figure Skating. My kids keep me pretty busy with their sports and I enjoy giving back to the community when I can.

Jen Gadbois – Nominated for Risk Management Officer

My name is Jennifer Lean-Gadbois, I have a son who started with NMHA at 7 years old. Since that time he has had an opportunity to play house league, select and both rep levels. Through this I was given an opportunity to manage teams from each level which gave me an opportunity to understand how the association works at each level. This also allowed me to gain a better perspective into all the roles and responsibilities within the association as well as a greater appreciation for the time and effort people put forward to make everything happen.

I have had years of experience working in a board of director run non-profit organization. I have chosen to accept the nominations to assist the NMHA and volunteer for a position. I am good with people, have the ability to listen to others points of view, challenge/question when needed, stay objective, be accountable and do what's best for the whole association and its members.

Kim Caletti- Nominated for Administrator

I have a great deal of corporate experience and legal training that would be beneficial to continuing as the Director of Administration. In addition to acting as the Director of Administration for the 2020-21 season, I've been the NMHA's Events Coordinator and before that I spent two years as the NMHA's Atom house league convener.  With two children actively participating in hockey in Northumberland, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue contributing to the growth and development of the NMHA.

Patricia Flynn-Press - Nominated for Ice Scheduler

I am proud to be able to call Northumberland my home for the past 5 years.  Not only have we met great friends in a great community, but we have met great friends that have become family within our Hockey Community.  My son has played in our association for 4 years now, where he has benefited from having great mentors, coaches and supportive families.

In my business life, I am an Account Manager for a large graphics company where scheduling plays a role in my daily duties.  Prior to this, my husband and I ran our own company for 20 years where I pull from my experience, organizational and problem solving skills to successfully take on the role of Ice Scheduler for the NMHA.

I feel fortunate to be a part of the Nighthawks family, so I feel it is only right to give back, not only to the community, but to our great organization. I very much want to do my part to ensure that the organization as a whole, puts the kids first and supports our children to grow with confidence and maturity while playing the game we all love.

Shannon Drumm - Nominated for Communication Officer

My family moved to Cobourg in the summer of 2019 from a small town south of Hamilton, ON.  My husband and I have 2 sons that have played rep level hockey since they were 7 yrs old – they are now 16 and 14.  We knew when we were planning our move, that hockey needed to be a focus for each of them as hockey has always been a big part of all our lives.

Both boys were successful during the tryout process back in 2019 and made their respective teams.  We have all enjoyed making some great friendships during our 1st  & 2nd seasons of Nighthawks hockey both on and off the ice. We are all very thankful to both of my sons teams for accepting all of us with open arms.  There is nothing quite like a hockey family!!

I have been involved in Managing each of my sons teams in the past and was interested in getting involved with the Northumberland Nighthawks Executive to help meet more people in the area and learn more about the background work done by the Association.

I joined the Executive in Sept 2020 as the Communications Officer. The 2020/21 was a very unusual pandemic season for everyone and I look forward to working with this great group of individuals as we plan to get the kids back on the ice for the 2021/22 season.
