Coaching Qualifications
Submitted By Michelle Brown on Thu 09 24, 20
We know that many coaches have questions regarding qualifications.

Some are concerned about qualifications that are/have expired.

Some are unsure of what qualifications are required.

We previously posted, the Team Official Qualifications,  the OMHA has also provided information for coaches that are required to move from D1 Trained to Certified or who have an expiring D1 Trained qualification.

The OMHA has asked that all D1 Field Evaluations be suspended until further notice.  They believe that given the restrictions put in place by the government and Public Health Units that we should not ask our evaluators to enter a facility to complete on-ice evaluations.

With this, they have created a process where coaches that are required to move from D1 Trained to Certified or have an expiring D1 Trained qualification, can still work towards their on-ice evaluation.
This process includes:
Completion of the  Making Ethical Decisions - Online Evaluation
Completion of the  D1 - Post-Task Workbook
Submission of the  D1 - Request for Evaluation Form to the NMHA.

Once the above requirements are met and confirmed with the OMHA office, the coach will be granted a 1-year extension on their qualification.  The expectation of this is that the coach completes the Trained to Certified process once circumstances allow and the OMHA communicates that D1 Field Evaluations can resume.

All coaching staff are required to also have the following qualifications (and these must be registered with the OMHA):
Respect in Sport (RiS) - Activity Leader or Speak Out
Gender Identity and Expression Training
NEW:  Hockey University - Planning a Safe Return to Hockey
