Nighthawks Spotlight
Submitted By Michelle Brown on Sun 09 24, 17
Big shout out to our first recipients of the Nighthawks Spotlight!

The Minor Peewee AE team has had quite a fantastic start to their hockey season.  They were the first Northumberland Nighthawks team to win a tournament in our 2017/2018 season.

This team of young boys came out firing on all cylinders when they participated in their own Justin Williams AE tournament the second weekend in September. The boys faced some pretty stiff competition, but luckily with their winning record, hard work and determination, they found themselves in the finals, where their narrowly edged out Barrie with a 3-2 exciting win!

These 11 year old players represent Northumberland well, with kids from Port Hope, Cobourg, Grafton, Garden Hill and areas in between.

A very cool fact about this group is the amount of multi sport athletes that are on the team. Eleven of the boys are current or former Northumberland Jacks baseball players along with lacrosse and soccer players.  Many sport experts sing the praises of players who play several different sports and discuss the tremendous benefits, physically, psychologically and socially  - and this team is definitely reaping those benefits!

Another pretty amazing tidbit about this group is that many of these Nighthawks players were also players on the 2017 EOBA championship Northumberland Jacks team.  This means that several of the boys won two tournaments (baseball and hockey) in the span of just three weeks!!!

Outside of playing sports and winning championships, this is a super group of boys, who know how to get along as a team.

We wish you a very fun and exciting year, and we all look forward to sharing in your future successes.
