The U12AA Nighthawks and Whitby WildCats teamed up to show their support and promote education of Truth and Reconciliation through sports as part of the
Orange Jersey Project.
The Exhibition game played between the two U12AA teams was Sat Sept 29 at Jack Bugers Sports Complex. The event has been a collaboration between Alderville First Nation, NMHA and Whitby U12AA coaches and management.
The purpose of the orange jerseys is threefold:
1. To inform, educate, and engage with youth about the history of the residential school system
2. To promote truth and reconciliation
3. To promote physical and mental wellness of Indigenous and non-indigenous youth through sport
Whitby will be wearing the special orange jersey for the Exhibition game and our Nighthawks were supporting the day by applying helmets and sticks with orange tape for the game.
Whitby had extra Orange jerseys and gave each Nighthawk one to take home.
Thank you to Coach Neil Watson for sharing the pictures and the story behind this special game as well as the awareness the teams brought to such an important cause throughout Canada.
