Wishing all of our Northumberland Nighthawks players, families and fans the very best of the holiday season. Merry Christmas from NMHA... here's a classic rendition tailored to our hockey lives, for your reading pleasure...
Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the rink,
The players were buzzing — too much pop, I think!
The sticks were all taped and the skates all were tied,
While visions of hat tricks were dancing inside.
The goalies were nestled with pads in their lap,
Dreaming of shutouts and a long winter nap.
The coaches were pacing, the refs out of breath,
From calling offside for the millionth time — yes!
Then out on the ice there arose such a clatter,
The Hawks hit the boards with a boom and a shatter.
The lights from the scoreboard made the whole town glow bright,
Cobourg cheered loudly — what a magical night!
Santa showed up with a whistle and grin,
He said, “Drop the puck — let the holiday begin!”
The Hawks skated fast, candy canes in their hands,
They deked past the elves and confused all the fans.
The snow fell like confetti, the crowd gave a cheer,
For hockey in Cobourg — the best time of year.
So remember, dear friends, if you hear a loud “GOOOAL!”,
It’s just the Nighthawks on a holiday roll.
And Santa himself shouted out from the sleigh,
“Merry Christmas, Nighthawks — now backcheck and play!”
