This holiday season, the Northumberland Nighthawks U16AA demonstrated that teamwork extends far beyond the rink.
In partnership with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northumberland, the team proudly sponsored a local family in need, turning the spirit of giving into meaningful action. Through determination, generosity, and hard work, the players—supported by their families—raised just over $720 of their own money to help make Christmas special for a family in the community.
What made the experience especially impactful was the hands-on approach taken by the team. Accompanied by dedicated parent volunteers, the players visited the Cobourg Walmart, where they carefully shopped for and hand-selected each item for the family. Every gift was chosen with thought, intention, and care—reflecting the empathy and leadership values the team strives to build both on and off the ice.
This initiative was more than a fundraising effort; it was a lesson in compassion, responsibility, and community leadership. The players learned firsthand how collective effort can make a real difference, while parents and volunteers helped guide and support the experience every step of the way.
The Northumberland Nighthawks U16AA, along with their families, are proud to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Northumberland and grateful for the opportunity to give back during the holiday season. Their actions are a powerful reminder that when a team comes together with purpose, the impact can be truly meaningful.
