The Northumberland Nighthawks are proud to announce the Select Skills Competition will be back for the SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!
Who: Team’s Coach registers four skaters and a single goalie
to participate in the skills competition. All four skaters will participate in
Puck Control Relay.
What: Come have your team’s talent shown off in the Select
Skills Competition.
Where: Cobourg Community Center
When: Date and time will be confirmed with tournament schedule.
Order: U9, U13, U11, U18

The exact location, date and time will be confirmed along with the tournament closer to March. The skills challenges exact layout will be emailed out prior to competition.

Backwards Skating Challenge
The purpose of the event is for the
player to complete a backwards obstacle course with the fastest time. Shortest
time taken is declared the winner.
Accuracy Shooting
The purpose of the event is to hit
the four targets attached to the net in the shortest amount of time. Each
participant is given as much time as needed to hit the targets. Fastest time
moves on to the next round until a single winner is found.
Fastest Skater
The purpose of the event is to be
fastest skater around a single lap of the rink. Shortest time taken is declared
winner.
Break Away Challenge
The purpose of the event is to have
the most creative goal. Most creative goal is declared the winner. Players will
have two chances to “wow” the judges.
Save Streak
The purpose of the event is to
reward the goalie with the most saves.
Each goalie will get at MINIMUM 15 shots. Round one will see each goalie once, the four goalies with the most number of saves will move on. Round two and three will be a repeat of round one with two goalies eliminated in round two and one goalie eliminated in round three to have one goalie with the most saves left standing.
Puck Control Relay
The purpose of the event
is to be fastest skater over the course while also maintaining control of the
puck through a series of pylons and shots. Four players line up at their
stations were the first station begins with the start of the clock.
Note: each skill must be
completed before the puck can be passed along on to the next station.
- Cone Control: Each skater with a puck must skate through a series of
ten cones.

Starts and Stops: Each skater must
start and stop with the puck at a series of eight cones.
- Stickhandling: Each skater must control the puck through a series of
ten cones.
- Cone Control: Each skater with a puck must skate
and complete tight turns around 6 tires before putting the puck in the
mini net to stop the time.
The fastest time will be declared the
winner.
