Tournament Rules

1.This Tournament is sanctioned by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA)
2.The Tournament Co-ordinator/Committee, or the designated representative thereof, shall have complete authority with respect to the interpretation and/or application of the Tournament Rules and Regulations.
3.All decisions of the Tournament Co-ordinator/Committee, or designated representative thereof, shall be considered final and binding on all parties.
4.There are no appeals or protests allowed at this Tournament. Any concerns or issues are to be addressed with the Tournament Co-ordinator.
5. “FIGHTING” is not allowed in our Northumberland Nighthawks Select Round-Up Tournament. Any player receiving a fighting penalty is out of the tournament.

A. GENERAL

1. The Tournament shall be conducted in strict accordance with all Canadian Hockey Association and OMHA rules and regulations, and, all additional rules and regulations as may be determined by the Tournament Co-ordinator/Committee.
2. All players shall wear approved equipment and safety protection (ie: mouth guards, neck guards) as established by the OMHA Manual of Operations.
3. The Tournament will employ a two (2) official system for all games.
4. The ice surface will be cleaned and flooded prior to each game.
5. Teams must be at the Arena and prepared to start the games fifteen (15) minutes prior to the published scheduled start time.

B. TEAM REGISTRATION

1. All teams are required to register and sign-in at the Tournament Room at the Arena at least forty-five (45) minutes prior to their first game. Teams not playing their first game at the CCC will be required to sign in immediately following their first game.
2. Player’s cards and /or an approved electronic team roster and the OMHA Tournament Registration sheet must be provided prior to your first game.
3. Teams shall provide a travel permit from their Association and /or a permission form from their hockey center as part of the registration process.

C. TOURNAMENT FORMAT

1. The Round-Robin segment of the Tournament will be followed by a Quarter Final, Semi-Final/final game(s) for the proceeding teams.
2. During the Round-Robin segment of the Tournament points will be awarded as follows:
    2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.
    The teams plus/minus stats will also be kept. In the event that a team either forfeits a game or fails to
    complete a game, a score of 3 to 0 will be recorded and the winning team will be awarded two (2) points for the win.    
                                           
3. In the event an uneven number of teams are in a division causing one (1) team to play a fourth Round-Robin game, in that said teams 4th and final Round-Robin game, said team cannot earn any points and their score will not be counted.

D. GAME FORMAT

1. All Tournament games shall consist of a two (2) minute warm-up. The game clock will commence when the Referees skate onto the ice.
2. All games will be comprised of three (3) stop time periods.
3. Notwithstanding Clause D2 above, in the event that there is a five (5) or more goal difference at anytime during the third period of a Round-Robin game, the game clock will continue to run. The only time the clock would stop is during a Referee signalled injury timeout. During run time, a two (2) minute penalty shall be assigned three (3) minutes on the score clock and a five (5) minute penalty shall be assigned six (6) minutes on the score clock.
4. In the Round-Robin, Semi-Final and Final games, the length of the periods shall be 10-10-10 for U9MD and 10-10-15 for U11 and up in duration.
5. No overtime shall be played during the Round-Robin segment.
6.There will be no timeouts permitted during the Round-Robin segment.
7. During the Final game(s), the length of the periods shall be the same as in the Round-Robin play. Floods during the game to be determined.
8. One (1) thirty (30) second timeout shall be permitted for each team during the Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals and Final games. Must be used in regulation time, no-timeouts in Overtime.

E. TIES IN ROUND-ROBIN STANDINGS

1. In the event of a tie at the conclusion of the Round-Robin segment, the following procedure will be used to break the tie: If there are two (2) or more tied teams, then the formula of goals for divided by the total of goals for plus goals against, the team with the highest percentage will gain the higher position.
2. If teams are still tied, then the team with the least goals scored against will gain the higher position.
3. If the teams are still tied, the team with the least penalty minutes throughout the Round-Robin segment will gain the higher position. Ten (10) minute misconduct penalties will be counted in this calculation.
4. If the teams are still tied after all of the above have been applied, then a single coin toss undertaken by the Tournament Co-ordinator will determine which team gains the higher position.
5. To promote Sportsmanship in the Tournament, a maximum of five (5) goal margin in a Round-Robin game will be used in the calculation of the tie breaker.

F. TIES IN QUARTER FINALS, SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL GAMES

If at the end of regulation time the score is tied, the teams will take a one (1) minute rest at their benched and the following shall apply:
1. The teams will not change ends.
2. No timeouts can be called by the coaches.
3.Overtime will be five (5) minute sudden death starting with 4 on 4 plus goaltender.
4. Remove one (1) player each minute until one (1) player plus goaltender remains until winning goal is scored. No substitutions during stoppage in play. Substitutions must be made only upon the completion of each one (1) minute segment.
5. Any penalty assessed while playing with two (2) or less skaters and one (1) goalie will be 1 minute and the non-penalized team will add an extra skater for duration of penalty.
6. Any penalties assessed in the last minute of regular game will be reduced to one (1) minute in length once overtime is reached.
7.Goalie must remain on ice during the entire overtime period.

G. DISCIPLINE

1. Any player or team personnel ejected from a game will be suspended from a game will be suspended from their teams’ next scheduled Tournament game based upon the Ontario Hockey Federation minimum suspension guidelines.
2. Any player or team personnel receiving a Gross Misconduct or a Match Penalty at any time and/or for any reason during the Tournament shall be suspended for the remainder of the Tournament.

H. MISCELLANEOUS

1. A goaltender shall not be permitted a “warm-up” following a goaltender change during a tournament game, regardless of the reason (ie: injury) for such a change.
2. The Home Team for each Tournament game shall be the team so designated in the Official Tournament Schedule.
3. All teams shall use the arena dressing room assigned to the during each tournament game. Each team shall assume full responsibility for securing and/or otherwise protecting any/all of their belongings.
4. In the event of a Jersey conflict the Home team will change jerseys.
5. It is the responsibility of each team to ensure all bench staff sign the game sheet prior to the start of each game.
