First Shift Graduates
Last year we held our Canadian Tire First Shift program and saw 40 young players learn to play hockey.

Fortunately for us, 12 of those Graduates decided to lace up their skates and proudly don their Nighthawks jerseys this season.

These 5 young ladies are just a few of our newest Nighthawks that graduated from the Canadian Tire First Shift Program.

Rylea A. (9),Breanna R. (10), Brooklynn U. (10), Emily H. (8) and Violet U. (7) all participated in the program last season. Each girl was outfitted from head to toe with equipment from Bauer, they received 12 on-ice sessions from trained coaches and were taught the basics of our beloved game of hockey with a huge emphasis on FUN!

Obviously these girls had a great time, because here they are, playing hockey and having a blast.  I asked each girl what they like about hockey. Rylea said that it is fun, she likes hanging out with her friends and learning to skate.  She especially loves the games.  Brooklyn, said that she likes to be in front of the net, so that she can get the rebounds.  Emily likes learning new skills as well as playing with and making new friends on her team. Breanna thinks that playing hockey is fun and Violet simply loves everything about hockey!

The goal of the First Shift Program is to help kids fall in love with hockey and it certainly did with these 5 players. The program is designed to be positive and memorable.  They want to make hockey affordable, manageable, safe and fun.  Many thanks to our Director of Development for bringing this opportunity to the families in Northumberland.

The Nighthawks Association is very proud of these young hockey players, and we hope to see them on the ice for many years to come.
