MD7 Program (Northumberland Minor Hockey)

PrintMD7 Program
What does MD7 stand for?    MD is the acronym for Minor Development.  The 7 stands for the age of the players.  For the 2016-17 season this would apply to children born in 2009.

What level of hockey is it?   MD7 will vary by association or league as it falls under the "Select" category of the OMHA.   MD is a team from a AAA, AA or A Centre that participates at a level above House League but lower that Representative and is comprised of players who are eligible for the centre by the age and residence as per the OMHA residency regulation 3.5.

Practices, Tournaments and Exhibition games?   The NMHA provides the MD7 Team with (3) 1-hour ice slots per week.  (2) for practices and (1) for a game.  MD Teams registered with the OMHA are eligible to participate in sanctioned tournaments (2 max.) and exhibition games (3 max. per calendar month) with other affiliated OMHA and approved teams from affiliated members/branches of the OHF/Hockey Canada.

What League do we play in?   Lakeshore MD7, which travels to centres such as Pickering, Whitby, Kingston, Peterborough, Oshawa etc..  The season will start around Thanksgiving and finish in early March.  Initially, teams will play games against the other centres and a re-balancing will take place based on the results of those games. For competitive purposes, two divisions will be created based on the teams performance with the top teams facing the other top teams.

Can my child play on this team?   If your child lives in Cobourg or Port Hope and is registered with the NMHA and was born in 2009, then yes, they are eligible to tryout for the MD7 team.  If your child lives in a "right of choice" area (outside of cobourg/port hope protected area) and you have never declared your right of choice by playing on another centre's REP or Select team then yes, you could register and tryout for this team.  If you live in a "right of choice" area, please contact our OMHA centre contact to confirm your eligibility as the OMHA has residency rules.

Expected costs?
First, a team fee of approx $12,000 is charged by the NMHA to MD7 team to cover practice & game ice and referees for the entire season. Your team will be on the ice a lot and the ice cost is significant.  Second, you may have additional expenses such as tournament fees, trainer's supplies, practice jerseys etc.  The total expense is divided by the number of players on the team to get a per player cost.  Your player will also require a team jacket and team dress code attire which is separate from the team's budget.
