Hockey is an incredible team sport!
It helps to develop and reinforce the benefits of teamwork, it teaches that working and cooperating together is a great way to achieve success. Playing a team sport can help to build a child's confidence and pride. Specifically, hockey teaches players to concentrate, follow directions, and to think on their feet. It cultivates a culture of respect for their coaches, fellow teammates and especially their opponents. Being on a hockey team gives players a positive place to belong!
All of these benefits, and we haven't even mentioned the amazing health benefits of being physically active!
Playing hockey sounds pretty fantastic, but we recognize that there are often some barriers that families face before signing up.
The cost of hockey can be a little too much to take on. Between the cost of equipment and registration, it definitely can be one of the more expensive sports to play. But without doubt, it is worth it!
The Northumberland Minor Hockey Association along with other community minded programs would never let the cost be a prohibiting factor in your child playing.
We truly believe that EVERY child should be given the opportunity to tie on their skates and hit the ice with their friends for what will surely lead to a lifetime of fun memories!
