10 Games into Regular Season
The Northumberland Nighthawks Minor Atom AE now have their first 10 regular season games under their belts/skates.  They have taken on the Peterborough Petes 3 times, the Oshawa Generals 2 times, the Whitby Wildcats 2 times, the Pickering Panthers 2 times and the Belleville Bulls only 1 time. They still have lots more games to play and improve their skills and teamwork.  Their record to date is 7 wins and 3 loses so they are started out very good and just need to remember that each team will get better throughout the season so always bring out your game face and play your hardest.

Here is a quick review of the first 10 games for the team.  They started the regular season with game one on September 19th with playing the Whitby Wildcats at the IPSC arena.  The game started out with 1 goal for the Nighthawks late in the first period by Drax Moran.  The second period we seen the Nighthawks get their second goal early in the period by Ethan Ross which was assisted by Malcolm Patrick and a third goal late in the period by Walter van der Vinne but then the Wildcats got on the board with a goal by #10 and assisted by #91.  During that period the Whitby Wildcats seen 2 penalties.  The third period was a very rough one with Nighthawks getting 1 penalty and Wildcats getting 4 penalties but Wildcats were the only team to get a goal that period with 24 secs left by #77 and assisted by #4 & #89 in the game to finish the game with 3-2 for the Nighthawks.
Game 2 was September 23 against the Whitby Wildcats again but the traveled down to the CCC-Pond to take the Nighthawks on again.  The first period started off quickly with a goal from Wildcats #91 assisted by #18 & #10 in the first minute of play.  Nighthawks got the only penalty that period.  The second period was a very interesting period with lots of action from both teams.  Nighthawks got on the board with their first goal of the game early into the period by Luke Thompson assisted by Sawyer Brown and then got another goal late in the period by Sawyer Brown and assisted by Sam McMurray and Logan Giroux.  The Wildcats pulled of another goal again with only seconds left in the period by #97.  Both teams seen 1 penalty each for tripping.  Third period started out good for the Wildcats 1 goal quick in the period by #97 but then getting a penalty right after and then tough play by other teams and late in the period with a goal by Nighthawks and then a quick goal right after by Wildcats.  Final score was a win for the Wildcats with the final being 4-3.
Their third game was on September 24 against Peterborough Petes where the team traveled to the Kinsmen Arena.  The first period ended with 2-1 for the Nighthawks, the second period ended with 2-2 and then the final was 3-2 for the Petes. Nighthawks wee the only ones to get a penalty but it was only 1 for the game.  Very good game played by everyone ad such a good close game.
The fourth game was on September 30 back on home ice against the Oshawa Generals.  The team had their AP goalie Tucker Dyson join us for the game.  The first period was scoreless for both teams but the Generals did get 2 penalties that period.  The second period started with a goal 5 minutes into the period for the Nighthawks and a second goal a minute later to tie up the game so a very good period.  The third period seen lots of play with 52 secs into the period a goal for the Nighthawks and 15 secs later a goal for the Generals and 20 secs from that goal was a goal for the Nighthawks so that made it 3-2 for the Nighthawks.  The game ended with 2 more goals for the Nighthawks, 1 more for the Generals plus the Generals seen 3 penalties that period 1 being for the assistant coach being kicked out of the game.  The Nighthawks won the game by 5-3.
The fifth game the Nighthawks traveled up to the Legend Centre to replay the Oshawa Generals on October 5.  The game started out again with a scoreless and penalty free period.  The second period seen 5 goals from the Nighthawks and 1 penalty.  The Generals received 3 penalties and no goals during the second period.  The last period the Nighthawks decided to double up so they received 2 penalties and 2 more goals to give Lakin his very first shut out with the score 7-0 for the Nighthawks.
The six game was on October 7 on home ice against the Pickering Panthers.  This would be the first game that Pickering had against our loop of teams.  The Nighthawks got to be the first ones to play them.  The game was very fast with the Nighthawks getting 2 goals in the first period, 4 goals in the second period and 3 goals in the third period.  The Panthers only received a penalty which was in the third period.  The game finished 9-0 so a second shut out game which Lakin shared with Tucker who got to play in net for some of the game.  It was a first that the Nighthawks did not receive any penalties during the whole game.
The seventh game was on Thanksgiving where the team traveled to Belleville to play the Belleville Bulls at the QSWC arena.  The first period seen the Bulls get on the board first then back to back goals that were only secs after each other for the Nighthawks and both teams received 1 penalty that period.  Score was 2-2 after the first.  The second period the Nighthawks were on fire with 4 goals and 1 penalty.  The Bulls got 1 goal and 1 assist so the Nighthawks were leading the game 6-3.  The third period you could tell the Nighthawks had given it all the had in the second period because they let in 2 very quick goals to bring the game up to 6-5 and each team received a penalty.  The Nighthawks must have woke up quickly so the coaches really gave them a talk because with in the last 2 minutes of the game the Nighthawks got 3 more goals to take the 9-5 win.
The eighth game was a very stressful game on October 14 at the CCC-pond where the Nighthawks were taking on the Peterborough Petes once again but it wasn't just a normal game because both teams were tied for first place standings so it was the game to see who could pull out the win to be in first place standings.  Not only were the coaches and players nerves but so weren't a lot of the parents.  The first goal went to the Nighthawks but then the Petes got 1 20 secs after and then the Nighthawks got 1 more in before the period was over to make it 2-1 for the Nighthawks.  The second period seen the Petes get a quick goal then the Nighthawks and then the Petes again so that period continued with back and forth goals to make it 4-3 for the Petes and 2 penalties for the Nighthawks.  The last period the Petes got another goal but  then the Nighthawks got 1 back but there just wasn't enough time so the Petes took the win and first place standings with a 5-4 win and the Petes were the only team to get a penalty that period.  Excellent game by both teams.
The Nighthawks had a weekend of away games for games nine and ten on October 22 & 23.  The Saturday game they traveled to Peterborough Memorial to take on the Petes once again.  The first period seen a goal from the Nighthawks and a penalty from the Petes to end the period 1-0 for the Nighthawks.  The second period seen each team get a penalty but the Nighthawks came out on top with 2 more goals to finish the period with a 3-0 score.  The last period was action packed for the Nighthawks as they got 3 penalties and 2 more goals to make it another shut out with a 5-0 win.  Totally different game that the Nighthawks brought to Peterborough with them this time and too bad that wasn't for the first place standings or the Nighthawks would have blown the Petes out of the spot. The team then got to take a tour through the real Peterborough Petes dressing room to see what it's all about. They all had a blast checking it out.  The team then pack it all back up and traveled to Pickering on Sunday to take on the Pickering Panthers again.  The first period the Nighthawks got 2 goals to make it 2-0.  The second period the Nighthawks got 2 more goals to finish the period off and in the last period both teams got penalties 1 for the Nighthawks and 2 for the Panthers.  That would bring the Nighthawks to their 4th shut-out for the regular season and second shut-out for the weekend.  What an amazing weekend away for the Northumberland Nighthawks Minor Atom AE team.
Keep up all the hard work and it will pay off in the end.
